Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, Delhi has been recognised as a premier B-School in the country. Eurkea Club Event - The Chilly Potato Supply Chain Game Successfully Organized

It was a fight till the end, where all the operations enthusiasts came together to decode the Bugs Bunny's demand and the cost factor really made things interesting.

10 teams made it to the 2nd round, the first round being quiz and the 2nd round consisting of the simulation game.

The Results are as under:

1st Prize: Sumit Manchanda, Ratika Aggarwal, Shweta Gulati and Sunil Maurya satisfying complete 283 demand with just the minimal cost of 8050. They win Rs. 1200.

2nd Prize: Rohit Nema, Rahul Aggarwal, Arjun Singh Deswal and Anil Deokar satisfying complete 283 demand with a competitve cost of 8550. They win Rs. 800.

3rd Prize: Rahul Grover, Rahul Gattani, Gaurav Bhaduria and Sandipan Maiti also satisfied complete 283 demand with a close enough cost of 12100. They win Rs. 500.

The Chilly Potato Supply Chain Game Developed by LBSIM Eureka Club

The Chilly Potato supply chain game is a game which runs a simulation of the entire supply chain from raw materials to the consumer. The aim of the game is to feed the bugs bunny who likes chilly potatoes very much by first making chilly potatoes and then using the established network to satisfy his demand.

The game is inspired by MIT Beer Game and aims at taking a new direction of creating a tool to teach the students the basics of Operations Management.

Various new features and suggestions from faculties are currently being incorporated into it, however the current v. 1.0 works around the concept of bull whip effect only.

Confluence 2011

Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award






President Pratibha Patil conferred the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award 2011 on noted scientist and educator Prof Yash Pal on October 15, 2011.  Pal was honoured for excellence in public administration, academics and management at a brief function in the ornate Durbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhawan here.


The 85-year-old scientist conceptualised and set up a number of Inter-University institutions and has been involved in science communication activities through the media. 


"In recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of astrophysics, space technology, and education and most importantly for popularising science, the 12th Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management for 2011 is being conferred on Prof Yash Pal," read the citation. 


The honour carries a cash award of Rs five lakh, a citation and a plaque. The Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management has instituted the award in memory of the second Prime Minister of the country. It is presented every year by the President at a ceremony in the Rashtrapati Bhawan. C K Prahlad, N R Narayana Murthy, R A Mashelkar, M S Swaminathan, E Sreedharan, Sunil Bharti Mittal and Aruna Roy are among the earlier awardees.

Lal Bahadur Shastri National HR Conference 2011


Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management organized a National HR Conference on September 24, 2011 on the theme “Managing Human Resource in Changing Business Scenario”. With this HR Conference, Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, aims to provide a forum to experts from the corporate, academia, and government, to share their expert opinion and insights on the theme.

The session was inaugurated with a film on the life and times of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. Shri Anil Shastri, former Union Minister and Chairman, Board of Governors, LBSIM, Delhi, Dr. Gautam Sinha, Director, LBSIM, Dr. G.L. Sharma Corporate Advisor & Convener LBSIM, Delhi and Mr. Nitin Sachdeva, President, Management Grid, LBSIM, inaugurated the conference by lamp lighting and by offering floral tributes to Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. The chief guest for the occasion was Mr. Arun Balakrishnan, former CMD of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited. Mr. Balakrishnan had joinedmthe Board of HPCL as Director- Human Resources in January 2002 and in April 2007 he became the Chairman & Managing Director. He is the Founder Chairman of HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd.- a Joint Venture Company of HPCL and L.N. Mittal Investments, engaged in the construction of a 9 million tonnes per annum, Rs. 20,000 crores refinery at Bathinda in Punjab.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Gautam Sinha, the Director of the Institute, welcomed the chief guest, speakers, delegates, media persons, faculty and the students for the HR Conference. He focused on ‘thrive and survive’ policy in an organization, leadership roles of HR managers and their need to embrace ‘change management’.

Dr. Bindu Chhabra, Conference Convener, LBSIM, Delhi, briefed the audience about the theme of the conference. She informed about the sessions of the conference. The first session was on ‘Leaders as Change Masters’ and the second session was on ‘Change through strategic HR initiatives’. She emphasized the need for leaders to embrace systems implying effective changes, restructuring systems and processes which help in surviving in a competitive environment.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Arun Balakrishnan, former CMD, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, emphasized on micro and macro levels of changes in the economy. He also highlighted the contrast in emerging changes in business scenario from inception to his retirement from HPCL. He noted that institutes like LBSIM has the responsibility of making managers adaptable to new changes and should improve expertise in new technology and ways of trying to remain competitive year after year.

The presidential address was delivered by Shri Anil Shastri, former Union Minister and Chairman, Board of Governors, LBSIM, Delhi. He discussed about cross country differences thereby emphasizing the rapid change in trends and the pace at which they were happening. He requoted Napoleon Bonaparte’s definition of strategic leadership “Strategic is an art of managing space and time. Space we can recover, time never.” Tracking the time that radio, television, personal computers and internet took to reach 1 million users, he said that leaders should be capable of diagnosing the change element and be adaptive to the pace of change.

Dr. G.L Sharma, Corporate Interface Advisor, LBSIM, Delhi, in acknowledgement of the speakers concluded that human resource managers have to convince people to go to semi-urban and rural areas and make basic facilities available there.
